About this role
Susquehanna is currently looking for a Trading Connectivity Engineer to join our Proprietary Trading Services team. As part of our team, you will be working to support the firm’s core businesses, while gaining broad-based experience across multiple technologies.
Troubleshooting is the core of this role
When a desk cannot trade, you are the person tasked with resolving the issue — usually with a partial symptom, a live market, and a fault that could be in our application, our configuration, the host, or the exchange. You’re the face of order routing across 700 gateways connecting to 100 distinct venues. You will identify the scope of the issue, gather evidence, restore functionality and close the loop with new documentations, checks or procedures.
In this role you will:
- Onboard new exchange connectivity end to end — new venues, sessions, ports and MPIDs — from specification review and requirements gathering through certification testing and production cutover
- Configure and maintain order-routing gateways and their pre-trade risk controls: order and daily quantity and notional limits, self-trade prevention, publication, cancel-on-disconnect and kill-switch behavior
- Verify that the trading environment is ready before the open — test orders, session state, reference data — and be the first response when something is wrong during the day
- Investigate production problems end to end: rejects, session drops, sequence gaps, missing or delayed messages, latency outliers, unexpected venue behavior. Reconstruct what actually happened from logs, packet captures and message archives
- Develop scripts and tools for monitoring the state of the production environment and its dependencies
- Act as a liaison between trading desks, developers, platform teams and other technologists for system-level production issues and new setups
- Track externally driven projects to completion
- Provide pre and post trade support for traders, strategists and quantitative researchers
What we're looking for
- 3+ years supporting production electronic trading systems or trading connectivity required
- Working knowledge of the FIX protocol at both the session and application layer — sequence recovery, resend and gap fill, execution report semantics
- Exposure to exchange-native binary order-entry protocols (OUCH, Pillar, BOE, etc.)
- Demonstrated proficiency in scripting languages (Python, bash, shell)
- Hands-on Linux command line experience – system metrics, logs,
- Familiarity with observability tooling such as Grafana or Elasticsearch
- Familiarity with current code generation AI tools
- Working knowledge of SQL
- Solid networking fundamentals – multicast, routing, firewalls
- Demonstrated production discipline — structured change control, clean incident handling, documentation
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with traders, exchanges, developers and other technologists
- Good understanding of financial instruments and markets is a plus
Visa sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position now or in the future.
